WORKSHOPS

SproutSpoken has run many workshops over the years - principally working with people at the beginning of their creative journey. The focus has been on supporting writers who come with work already crafted but need help to get their words ‘up on their feet’. These are not creative writing spaces, where work is engendered, rather opportunities to learn and practise stagecraft.

In addition to this, participants have been helped with confidence-building and assisted in identifying (and avoiding) the dreaded ‘poetry voice’. There have also been sessions given to general delivery skills, including microphone technique, how to craft a set from a selection of poems, intros/links/outros and the exploration of gesture, tone and eye-contact.

Over the years, the WordWorks programme has facilitated small-group workshops that have fostered peer-learning as well as practioner-led delivery. In recent years, a shifting focus has meant that artists have been supported to share their work in outdoor settings or theatrical modes.

Previous workshop delivery includes:

WordWorks - an ongoing programme (2018-)
Behind the Postcard - Creative Kernow (2021)
OutWrite (landscape response) - Welcome Back Fund (2022)
You Are Here 2022 - Newquay co-creation project (2022)
You Are Here - Treviglas Academy, Year 9 project (2022)
Words on their Feet - Bude Literary Festival (2023)
You Are Here 2024 - cross-Cornwall co-creation project (2024)

In addition, workshops from highly experienced and nationally profiled artists have been brought to Cornwall by SproutSpoken - including sessions with Malaika Kegode, Chris Redmond, John Hegley, Dizraeli, Rebecca Tantony, Harry Baker and others.
